The currency on a customer is not about how you get paid — you are still charged and reported in your base. It is about what the customer reads. Set it and the cart and the receipt print a second figure in their money, converted at your saved rate.
- 1
Add the currencies you deal in first
The customer's currency field only offers currencies you have set up, and the second figure is calculated from your saved rate. Without a rate there is nothing to convert with — that setup lives in Settings → Currencies.
- 2
Open the customer
Create a new customer or open an existing one for editing. The Customer's Currency field sits with the phone and email.
- 3
Know when the field appears
It is shown for a Dominican Republic location, where fiscal receipts have always asked for it, and for any location that has configured extra currencies. If you do not see the field, you have not added a currency yet.
- 4
Pick their currency
Choose from the list — it is searchable, so type the code or the country. This is the currency this customer thinks in, not the one they will hand you.
- 5
Check the cart
Ring something up with that customer attached. The cart shows the second figure alongside your own total. The customer is still charged in your base currency; the second number is there so they can agree to it.
- 6
Check the receipt
Print or preview the receipt. It carries both figures. An order saves the currency and the rate it was issued with, so reprinting an old receipt shows what was agreed then rather than today's rate.
Wskazówka dla profesjonalistów
- Attach the customer before you finish the sale, not after. The second figure comes from the customer on the order, so a sale rung as a guest prints one number.
- A customer's currency is a courtesy, not an accounting change. Your reports, your register and your taxes all stay in your base currency.
