How to track serialized products

Set up a Serialized Item product so LunixPOS tracks each unit by its own unique serial or IMEI, then sell the exact unit you handed over.

Serialized products let you track each individual unit—phones, laptops, appliances, or any high-value good—by a unique Serial/IMEI. You attach serials to your stock by location, and at checkout you pick the exact unit that left the shelf. This keeps inventory and sales accurate down to the single item.

  1. 1

Go to Products and click Add Product

From the Products page, click Add Product to open the create screen. Under Product Type, choose the Serialized Item tab.

  2. 2

    Choose the brand and model

Pick the item from the searchable dropdowns. If it isn't listed yet, use the inline links to add it.

    • Device brand — select the brand, or click Add New Brand
    • Device model — select the model, or click Add New Device
    • The Title Preview field fills in automatically as (Brand) (Model) (Storage) (Color) (Carrier)
  3. 3

    Fill in the item details

Describe the specific unit so each serialized record is clear and searchable.

    • Storage — pick from the list or leave blank for non-storage items
    • Color — required (letters only)
    • Carrier — optional, e.g. unlocked or a network name
    • Category, Vendor, Product Tags, and an Image — optional
  4. 4

    Set Pricing

In the Pricing card, enter the price, minimum price, and cost. With more than one location you can toggle between Generic Price and Location-specific Prices. Use Charge tax on this product to apply tax.

  5. 5

    Set Status and Condition

Choose the unit's Status (Active or Inactive) and its Condition.

    • Condition options include New, Excellent, Good, Fair, Used, grade scales A+ through D, Certified Pre-Owned, and Open Box
  6. 6

Add quantity and attach the serials

In the Inventory card, set the Quantity for a location, then click the IMEIs button to open the Add Product IMEIs for [location] modal. Enter one serial per unit—the form flags any Duplicate IMEI and won't save until each is unique. Click Save. The saved serial count keeps the location quantity in sync.

  7. 7

    Save the product

Click Save Product (or Save Changes when editing) to finish. Your serialized item now appears on the Products page, filterable under Serialized products.

  8. 8

    Sell a specific unit

When you add a serialized product to an order, the Select IMEI(s) window opens. Check the exact unit(s) you're selling, then click Add to order so the right serial leaves inventory.

Pro tips

  • Set the location Quantity first—the IMEIs button gives you exactly that many serial fields to fill in. If you need more, raise the quantity and reopen the modal.
  • Use the printer icon next to a serial to print a label for that individual unit so it can be scanned at the counter.
  • The Serialized Item type is geared to repair-business stores; if you don't see the tab, check that your store's business type supports it.
